White House Demands Removal of UN Rapporteur Francesca Albanese

US officials accuse Albanese of antisemitism, false legal claims and attacks on American companies.

The United States is calling on the United Nations to immediately dismiss Francesca Albanese, the special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, over what it describes as “inflammatory,” antisemitic conduct and legally unfounded attacks on Israel and its allies.

In a formal diplomatic communication, the White House condemned Albanese for what it called a pattern of reckless behavior accusing her of pushing baseless accusations against Israel, threatening global corporations, and misrepresenting international law. Albanese recently sent letters to major businesses, including US defense contractors, warning them that working with Israel could constitute “complicity in genocide” and “apartheid.” US officials blasted this as an attempt to weaponize international law against Israel and its supporters.

Acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shea criticized Albanese’s campaign as “political and economic warfare” that undermines not only Israel but also global diplomatic standards and business confidence. She warned UN Secretary-General António Guterres that Albanese’s radical rhetoric and misuse of her role pose a grave risk to the integrity of the Human Rights Council.

Further inflaming tensions, US diplomats also questioned Albanese’s legal credentials, revealing that despite her self-presentation as an “international lawyer,” she is not licensed to practice law. The State Department noted that this misrepresentation could affect her eligibility for the diplomatic immunities typically afforded to UN officials.

This isn’t the first time Albanese has sparked outrage. She has publicly compared Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler a grotesque and offensive analogy that drew condemnation from both Israeli leaders and bipartisan voices in the US. She has also been accused of downplaying the horrors of Hamas’s October 7 massacre, behavior many say disqualifies her from any neutral role in international diplomacy.

Albanese’s forthcoming UN report reportedly accuses Israel of operating an “economy of genocide” with corporate complicity an assertion the US dismissed as “legally baseless” and an egregious misrepresentation of both the facts and the law.

Though the UN secretary-general's office claims it has no direct authority over Albanese’s position, Washington is applying pressure on the Human Rights Council, which oversees such appointments. The push to remove her is part of a broader US effort to combat bias against Israel within the UN system.

Israel and its allies have long viewed the UNHRC as a deeply flawed body, often hijacked by anti-Israel agendas. The latest episode reinforces that view and makes clear that the US will not stand idle as false narratives are peddled under the guise of human rights advocacy.
