Trump Envoy Witkoff Heads to Israel as Iran Talks Loom
High-level visit comes amid Gaza ceasefire talks and signs of renewed US-Iran diplomacy.

As regional tensions continue to climb, senior U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is set to arrive in Israel as early as tomorrow, Israeli officials confirmed, marking a high-stakes diplomatic mission tied to both the ongoing Gaza ceasefire negotiations and escalating concerns over Iran’s regional posture.
Witkoff, who has played a central role in shaping the Trump administration’s Middle East strategy, is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and top Israeli defense officials, including Defense Ministry Director-General Eyal Zamir. A senior Israeli security source confirmed that the meetings will focus on strategic coordination amid increasing Iranian aggression and uncertainty over Hamas’s future in Gaza.
The visit comes as the United States and Iran inch closer to a new round of diplomacy. Iranian media outlets have reported that negotiations with Washington could begin in the coming days, possibly involving Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Witkoff directly. Turkey is being floated as a potential host country, though no official venue or schedule has been confirmed.
“We have never given up on diplomacy and have never missed an opportunity to secure the rights of the Iranian people,” Araghchi said in a statement broadcast on Iranian state-linked outlets. “We are ready for diplomacy, but it has its own principles.”
At the same time, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly instructed his diplomatic team to prepare for talks with the U.S., a move that suggests Tehran may be seeking to ease sanctions pressure while testing the limits of U.S. regional commitments.
For Israel, the timing of Witkoff’s visit is critical. With phase two of the Gaza ceasefire framework under discussion and Iran continuing to arm and direct proxy forces across the region, Israeli officials are eager to ensure that their security red lines are clearly understood by Washington.
The talks will likely cover strategic deterrence, Hamas disarmament, and regional realignments following shifting diplomatic signals from Tehran. Israel is expected to press for U.S. guarantees that any new deal with Iran will not undermine Israeli security or enable a resurgence of terrorist threats near its borders.
Witkoff’s arrival underscores the importance of U.S.-Israel coordination as the region navigates a fragile moment where diplomacy and deterrence are running in parallel and may soon collide.
