Yuval Raphael to Represent Israel at Eurovision 2025
Survivor of Nova massacre embraces music as a symbol of strength and resilience.
Yuval Raphael, a 24-year-old survivor of the October 7 Hamas attack on the Nova music festival, will represent Israel at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland. Raphael secured her spot after winning the reality competition Hakochav Haba (Rising Star) with a powerful rendition of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen,” dedicated to the victims of the massacre.
“Music is one of the strongest ingredients in my healing process,” Raphael said during the show’s final. Her journey from tragedy to triumph has inspired millions, symbolizing strength and resilience.
Raphael was at the Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists launched their attack. She survived by hiding under piles of bodies in a roadside bomb shelter, enduring eight hours of terror before being rescued by IDF forces. Out of more than 40 people in the shelter, only 11 survived. Raphael still carries shrapnel from the attack in her head and leg, a constant reminder of the horrors she witnessed.
Since then, Raphael has shared her story on global stages, including the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2024. “Trapped and fearing for my life, I witnessed unspeakable horrors friends and strangers alike were injured and killed in front of my eyes,” she recounted. Her advocacy has brought attention to the atrocities committed and the resilience of those affected.
Raphael views her Eurovision participation as a platform to share Israel’s story. “I want to tell the story of the country, of what I went through, of what others went through,” she said. “Not from a place of seeking pity, but from a place of standing strong.”
Her determination comes amid challenges. Last year’s Eurovision saw protests against Israel’s participation, threats against its representative, and even controversy over the entry song. Yet, Israel finished fifth overall, buoyed by televote support.
Raphael’s song for Eurovision 2025 will be selected in March by a committee convened by Kan, Israel’s public broadcaster. As she prepares for the contest, she remains committed to showcasing Israel’s strength and perseverance on a global stage.
Yuval Raphael’s journey from survivor to symbol of hope is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates to inspire others and stand with Israel.
