Arkia Airlines Transports 130 Zambian Students to Israel for Agricultural Studies
Historic program strengthens ties through education, innovation, and humanitarian efforts.
For the first time in history, 130 agricultural students from Zambia have arrived in Israel as part of a unique educational and agricultural program. The group landed at Ben-Gurion Airport aboard an Arkia Airlines flight, a mission organized by Israel’s Ramat Negev Regional Council under its “Agricultural Interns” initiative, operating through Israel’s international aid agency, Mashav.
Over the next 11 months, the students will study and volunteer alongside Israeli farmers in the Ramat Negev region. This program highlights Israel’s commitment to sharing its expertise in agriculture, water management, and advanced agritech with developing nations, while fostering international partnerships.
Eran Doron, head of the Ramat Negev Regional Council, emphasized the broader goals of the initiative, known as the Beneficiaries Project. “The project has a special contribution to Israel's foreign relations, especially this year,” Doron explained. “We are happy to assist African countries by sharing knowledge in agritech, while also supporting life-saving activities like those of the Save a Child's Heart association. This connection expresses our mutual commitment to creating a better world.”
Israeli Ambassador to Zambia Ofra Farhi played a significant role in coordinating the flight. Along with the Zambian students, the plane carried graduates of the project back to Zambia, ensuring continued agricultural productivity during Israel’s challenging times. Additionally, the mission delivered hundreds of tons of medical equipment and included a medical delegation from Save a Child's Heart, an Israeli humanitarian organization dedicated to providing life-saving pediatric care.
Oz Berlowitz, CEO of Arkia Airlines, underscored the importance of the mission, which aligns with Israel’s values of innovation, collaboration, and humanitarian outreach. “This mission combines national, educational, and humanitarian values,” he said. “We are proud to be part of an initiative that brings people together for a shared goal.”
Israeli innovation in agriculture and water management has long been a model for countries facing challenges in food security and sustainability. This historic program with Zambia not only empowers students with advanced skills but also strengthens Israel’s role as a global leader in sharing solutions that address critical needs.
Through education, collaboration, and humanitarian aid, Israel continues to build meaningful partnerships with African nations, creating a brighter, more connected future for all.
